Chelsea target to sign contract on Monday

Chelsea target Mauro Icardi is expected to see his future resolved on Monday, according to Inter Milan director Piero Ausilio.

The 22-year-old striker has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this season with Blues boss Jose Mourinho a keen admirer of the Argentine goalscorer.

A whole host of other clubs have also been interested but Mourinho has monitored his contract situation at Italian side Inter Milan since the turn of the year.

Icardi has a current deal with Inter that expires in 2018 but the San Siro outfit are hopeful of extending his deal and increasing his wages.

Club president Ausilio has now suggested that Icardi could sign a new deal as soon as next Monday.

“It takes time to discuss the details, but we have to recognise the good work he’s doing,” The Express quotes Ausilio as saying. “The thing that counts is that we will soon reach an agreement.

“Could he sign on Monday? There will be a meeting soon and if we can close the deal by Monday then fine, but if not it won’t mean there are any problems.”

Icardi has scored 14 top-flight goals in 23 appearances this season.
