Benedito: Current Barca board have considered Messi sale

Barcelona presidential candidate Agusti Benedito suspects the club’s current board have considered selling Lionel Messi in recent times.

Current president Josep Maria Bartomeu has been indebted with rumours linking Messi with a sensational exit from Camp Nou, prompting the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain to show interest.

Whilst, Bartomeu has denied such reports and claimed Messi will retire at the club, Benedito believes that Barca’s board are hiding the truth and that they considered to sell the four-time Ballon d’Or winner.

“They have shown in the recent past that their public quotes don’t always correspond with their ideas,” the 50-year-old told Goal.com in an exclusive interview.

“Sometimes they say things and then their actions go in the opposite direction. I hope in Messi’s case that their words and their actions correspond.

“It’s a worrying issue because at times it has seemed like they are really not concerned with keeping Messi happy.”
