Gerard Pique has heaped praise on Manchester City’s David Silva ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Barcelona.

Spaniard Silva netted twice on Saturday in the 5-0 win over Newcastle United and heads into the first leg in superb form.

And, his performances have been noted by Barca defender Pique, who has been impressed with the former Valencia man this season.

“I think he’s the player who makes the biggest difference in the team. Not just in attack but in midfield,” Pique told reporters.

“He generates so many chances, the way he passes the ball, drives the ball and scores goals, we’re talking about a top player, he has a brutal technical quality.”

Barca were unable to beat Malaga at the weekend, losing 1-0 at the Camp Nou and Pique is relishing the prospect of making amends against Manuel Pellegrini’s City side.

“Having a game every three days is great because it’s a chance to prove ourselves again,” said Pique.

“We get to play again and forget about Saturday a little bit. You never forget about a defeat at Camp Nou, but it’s the chance to come here and get a good result to take back to the second leg.

“City are one of the five best teams in the world and the Champions League is the most important competition, the most prestigious one. Now the most important thing is to advance to the quarter-finals.”
