Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been given the go ahead to sign Porto striker Jackson Martinez after the Portuguese club admitted they would are ready to sell.

The Gunners have long been linked with a move to the Colombian striker as they seek to add an extra proven goalscorer to their ranks.

Martinez has been linked with a number of other top clubs in Europe too, with Arsenal’s North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur also linked.

However, Arsene Wenger is said to be making serious moves ahead of a summer bid and he has become further buoyed by comments made by Porto president Pinto da Costa.

“Jackson almost left last summer but we agreed he’d stay one more year,” he revealed to reporters over the weekend.

“If somebody pays [his value] he will go.”

Arsenal are planning to offer £29.5million for Martinez, but could be joined by a number of clubs in doing so.
