Arsenal produced a fairly solid performance to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Saturday afternoon and move into third place.

The visitors took the lead after just eight minutes on the clock when Danny Welbeck was fouled in the area by Pape Souare, leaving Santi Cazorla to slot the resulting penalty into the box.

The home side managed to respond when Dwight Gayle broke down the wing to cross for Fraizer Campbell, who almost headed Alan Pardew’s side on level terms.

However, Arsene Wenger’s side went ahead again as Olivier Giroud was found by Alexis Sanchez and he finished well into the bottom corner.

Mesut Ozil would hit the crossbar in the second half as the Gunners continued to press, whilst home side Palace forced a rare change through Wilfried Zaha, but he could not force a shot on goal.

Palace did have something to cheer about when Glenn Murray scored a late consolation goal.
