Manchester United are preparing a summer swoop for Valencia central defender Nicolas Otamendi, according to Daily Express.

Reports in Spanish press suggest that United have been making several enquiries into the availability of Argentine defender Otamendi and that they would ideally like to partner him with Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels, who is said to have agreed a move in principle to join United.

Otamendi has been in superb form, having produced a number of high profile performances against the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid this season.

It is claimed that United were keen to make a bid in the region of £26m, but Valencia owner Peter Lim is unwilling to sell the former Porto defender for less than his release clause, which is set at £37m.

United are also believed to be interested in Andre Gomes, who also plays for the La Liga side.

The 21-year-old is considered one of the brightest talents in Europe and United scouts have provided positive reports on the player to Louis van Gaal.
