Former QPR boss Harry Redknapp has claimed that Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois both wanted to join Tottenham Hotspur before moving to Chelsea.

During the 2011/2012 season, Spurs had been linked with a move for Belgian forward Hazard but were beaten by Chelsea, who had just won the Champions League.

Courtois, also now established at Stamford Bridge was also an early target for the North London side before joining Chelsea and enjoying a loan spell with Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.

And, Redknapp has discussed how his attempts to lure the duo to White Hart Lane failed.

“I was with Hazard in Paris, four hours I spent with him. He wanted to come to Tottenham, but the deal dragged on and didn’t happen,” he told talkSPORT.

“The goalkeeper, Courtois, we had him for next to nothing when he was 17 and that was another deal that dragged on forever and we didn’t get it over the line. He should have been at Tottenham.

“If we had of bought one or two players in at that time that we could have got, I felt we would have had a team capable of winning the league.”
