Manchester United are on the verge of offering Michael Carrick a one-year contract extension.

The midfielder’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season but manager Louis Van Gaal wants to keep Carrick and believes he can still offer a lot more to the team and also wants him to help the development of new signing Daley Blind.

Carrick has reportedly begun deep talks with United over a possible extension and a deal could be completed by the end of next week.

The veteran midfielder will be given the option of a further 12 months depending on his performances next season.

Carrick, whose season has been disrupted by injury problems, is currently earning £130,000 per week.
