Liverpool midfielder regrets manner of Southampton exit

Adam Lallana has admitted that he ‘regrets’ how he left Southampton for Liverpool last summer.

The England international called time on his career with Southampton in the summer when he moved to Anfield in a £25m deal but reports of him issuing his former club an ultimatum have since been countered.

Lallana, who could face his former club on Sunday, has discussed his regrets at the manner of his exit from St. Marys, before praising the club’s fans.

“I’m not stupid enough to think the way I left didn’t leave a sour taste in a few people’s mouths,” Lallana told BBC Radio Solent. “The way I left I regret, I regret bits and pieces of how it happened and it got nasty. It was sad the way it happened.

“Deep down I hope Saints fans appreciate the times we had at the club together. Football is a fickle game – if I do get the jeers and the boos I’m just going to take it as them missing me playing down there because I miss Southampton.

“I miss the fans and I miss the good times we had down there. Of course I do.”
