Colombia overcame a late comeback from Ivory Coast to win 2-1 and all-but seal their place in the knock-out stages of the World Cup.

James Rodriguez and Juan Quintero scored the goals for Colombia, whilst Gervinho scored a goal of the tournament contender with a superb solo run.

The South American side started well and tested Boubacar Barry’s goal early on but Teo Gutierrez saw his effort go wide of the post.

Cheik Tiote came close for the African side but it would be another glorious chance for Gutierrez that would prove the best of the half, a chance that he send wide of the goal.

Didier Drogba was hauled on just after the break for Ivory Coast but he did very little to stop James Rodriguez climbing above everyone to head his country in the lead.

Moments later and a quick counter attack saw Quintero scored his first international goal after being played in by the excellent Rodriguez.

Sabri Lamouchi’s side would not back down and Serge Aurier continued to pose a threat down the right.

Roma’s Gervinho would then take matters into his own hands late on as he took on three players, before striking past Barry.

A late chance for Drogba came to nothing and Colombia held on through the four minutes of stoppage time to seal a second win in two games.
