Aymeric Laporte rejects Man United talk for Athletic stay

Aymeric Laporte has discussed his desire to stay with Athletic Bilbao after interest from Manchester United.

The 20-year-old defender has a €42 million release clause, which is roughly £32 million, leading to much interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United.

The latter have been seriously keen with boss Louis van Gaal keen to bolster his defensive options ahead of a title challenge next season.

Laporte joined Bilbao in 2012 and has gone on to make 66 appearances for the Spanish outfit, and he has impressed many with his mature performances at the heart of defence.

Louis Van Gaal’s side signed Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao last season after buying out his contract, and United seemed fairly confident of doing the same for the young Frenchman.

However, in a recent interview with Spanish daily AS, Laporte confirmed his desire to stay at San Mames, saying: “Here there are many people of experience and I’m learning a lot from them. I have played a lot of games and I want to continue to do what I’m doing.”
