Real Madrid seal 2-0 away win over Schalke

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo secured a 2-0 first leg win for Real Madrid against Schalke.

The Bundesliga side made a good start to the game and frustrated the reigning champions but they failed to take advantage, seeing Dennis Aogo and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar test the palms of Iker Casillas.

The home side were then helpless to deny Cristiano Ronaldo, who despite a mini-drought in La Liga; scored a superb header following a cross from Dani Carvajal to give Madrid the lead.

Ronaldo would then test Schalke keeper Wellenreuther once more as he sent in a crashing free-kick from 25-yards, but he was denied.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side were in control and they continued that in the second half.

The home side then suffered another setback when Huntelaar was taken off with an injury and things went from bad to worse when Brazilian Marcelo scored a superb curling effort into the top right hand corner.

The score remained 2-0 to the visitors, giving them the advantage heading into the second leg at Santiago Bernabeu.
