Manchester United had not lost a Premiership game since November, and Swansea were looking to secure a double win against United today at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea’s 2-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion last week caused Monk to call the current Swansea City side poor, however with Emnes back in the side after an injury and Gylfi Sigurdsson returning after suspension after his red card against Blackburn, Monk insisted during his midweek press conference that his Swansea City side had improved since their 2-1 over United in August.

Manchester United’s win over Preston North End during their Midweek FA cup tie and their recent form in the league has been celebrated by van Gaal who stated that he believes that he’s currently managing the best team in the premiership.

Both teams opened strongly with both teams attacking and having chances, in the 3rd minute Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis’ header was saved on the line. Robin Van Persie hit the bar in the 15th minute and kicked the ball wide in the 26th minute.

Ander Herrera’s 27th minute shot to the bottom left-hand corner opened the scoring, putting United ahead, however 2 minutes later, Jonjo Shelvey’s cross was met by Ki Sung-yueng who placed the ball into the net to equalise the game.

The game remained end to end until half time with Marouane Fellaini being shown a yellow card after a foul on Jack Cork, which took the game into half time.

The second half saw Defender Mcnair being replaced by Antonio Valencia and Phil Jones being shown a yellow card for a foul on Wayne Routledge.

United dominated possession in the second half with shots from Ashley Young and Robin van Persie failing to reach the back of the net and numerous corners conceded by Swansea.

The 72nd minute saw Jonjo Shelvey’s long range shot headed by Gomis to reach the back of the net. With Swansea managing to hold on to their lead until the 90th minute the result meant that they managed to secure their double win over United this season.

Manchester United sit at fourth in the table, with Swansea sitting at ninth.
