Defender Bartley to undergo knee operation

Swansea City defender Kyle Bartley has been ruled out of playing following news that he needs an operation on a knee injury sustained in training.

According to a statement on the club’s webpage: “Bartley will undergo an operation on Thursday with the hope of being back in contention for selection six weeks later.”

The 23 year old, who signed for Swansea from Arsenal in 2012 hasn’t played for the team since being sent off during Swansea’s 3-2 loss to Blackburn in the FA Cup.

Bartley has struggled for force his way into the starting eleven under Garry Monk, seeing Ashley Williams, Federico Fernandez and Jordi Amat preferred.

Bartley is to undergo surgery on Thursday after suffering a meniscus.
