Press Room: PSG deserved to beat us, insists Mourinho

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho accepts that Paris Saint Germain should have won the first-leg of their last-16 Champions League tie at Parc des Princes.

Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani scored to level the tie after Branislav Ivanovic’s opener but a string of fine saves from Thibaut Courtois saw Mourinho’s side hold on and take advantage heading into the second leg.

And, the Portuguese coach was in no denial that the Ligue 1 side were the better on the night.

“The first half was all ours,” he told reporters. “PSG allowed us to have the ball and rarely pressured us but the second half was different.

“We were aggressive and always tried to play quickly and directly. I think the 1-1 result is a good reflection of what happened, thanks to some great saves from our goalkeeper.

“To be honest … If anyone deserved to have won it was PSG, not Chelsea, but everything is open for the second leg. PSG are a fantastic team so I think we did really well.”

Meanwhile, PSG boss Laurent Blanc has said that his side need to produce their best performance at Stamford Bridge to progress.

“In the return leg we will have to dictate the play and defend intelligently and with focus,” he told Canal+.
