Milan’s striker pursuit leaves Kaka on the brink

Iturbe

AC Milan’s pursuit of Verona hitman Juan Iturbe is set to spell the end of Kaka’s San Siro career, according to fresh reports in Italy.

Italian source Leggo claims Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has been in contact with his counterparts at Verona and has entered into a dialogue in order to thrash out acceptable terms for Iturbe.

The former Porto man plundered eight goals in 33 appearances last season.

Kaka looks likely to be one of the first victims of a mass clear-out at Milan, which comes in response to a torrid 2013-14 campaign.

They finished the domestic season in eighth position in the Serie A table, did not claim a piece of silverware and exited the Champions League prematurely.

Head coaches Massimiliano Allegri and Clarence Seedorf were both sacked, with the Dutchman given only four months in charge before being replaced by youth coach Filippo Inzaghi.

Kaka featured prominently throughout the season, making 36 appearances, but he often failed to reach the dizzy heights of his first spell at the club, which ended in 2009 with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.

He scored nine times last term but failed to earn a place in the Brazil squad for this summer’s World Cup campaign in his homeland.
