Barcelona plan 2016 move for Juan Mata

Barcelona are considering a move for Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish midfielder joined United in January 2014 but has failed to live up to the expectations on his shoulders which came following consistent performances for Valencia, Chelsea and the Spanish national side over recent years.

Reports linking Mata with an exit were heavy in the summer of 2014 with the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Atletico Madrid and former club Valencia all keen.

However, Barcelona were also keen on signing the Spanish international and it is understood that a lucrative bid was made by the Catalan side.

But, the midfielder rejected the chance to join the club and stay at United, where he was keen to impress new boss Louis van Gaal.

He has since struggled to maintain form, but interest from the Catalans has not vanished with reports in Catalan press now claiming they will come back with a fresh bid in January 2016, when their transfer ban ends.
