BREAKING: Tim Sherwood appointed Aston Villa boss

Aston Villa have confirmed that Tim Sherwood has been appointed as the club’s new manager.

The former Tottenham boss has been without a job since May 2014 but has been strongly linked with a number of roles in the Premier League, linked with Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace in recent weeks.

And, following Paul Lambert’s sacking at Villa Park, the former midfielder has now been appointed boss of the Midlands club.

“It is a great honour to manage one of the biggest clubs in English football,” Sherwood told the club’s official website after the announcement of his appointment.

“I can’t wait to get started and I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”

Villa chairman Randy Lerner also discussed the appointment: “While being forever conscious of the frustrations that we all suffer, we feel that a change that offers a positive, fresh approach will be very good for the club.

“I know that Tom [Fox, Villa chief executive] and many others at Villa worked very hard to recruit Tim in the face of severely limited time constraints and pounding pressure.

“More importantly, I know further that internally we remain focused and committed to challenges we face, and I am deeply appreciative for that.”
