Manchester United have been put on red alert after Barcelona stalled in their attempts to make initial contact with Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.
FEN reported last week that Barcelona officials had made moves to agree a future transfer with Italian giants Juventus for the French international and that the Catalan giants were confident in signing the midfielder.
However, Barca have now dropped back in their interest after the emergence of Rafinha, who has produced some impressive displays in recent weeks for Luis Enrique’s side.
The young Brazilian international was not expected to gain many minutes at Camp Nou this season, but fans and media close to the club are now seeing him as the potential replacement for Xavi Hernandez.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid have now become buoyed as they seek to sign the Frenchman later this summer, where as Barcelona would not be allowed to make a move until 2016, due to their transfer ban.
Pogba’s future has recently been discussed by his agent, who confirmed that the 21-year-old could join any top European club.
“He wants to make his mark on football history and he is already doing that,” his agent, Mino Raiola told Telefoot.
“Not a single player at the age of 21 has shown the world what he can do: lead a team in the palm of his hand.
“Pogba, he has done it already. His future? He could join any team. If the right time comes this summer, then it will happen.
“If it is not the right time, he could stay for another year or two. He will beat the transfer record. If there is one Mona Lisa in the world, and she is for sale, it will be a record price.”
