Messi would work well with Chelsea boss Mourinho, admits Di Maria

Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria has claimed that Barcelona star Lionel Messi would work well with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

The 27-year-old Argentine forward has been strongly linked with a move away from Camp Nou this season with a bitter fall out between himself and Barca boss Luis Enrique having been cited as a means to his unhappiness.

Messi has since returned to superb form and those aforementioned reports have been played down, but links with a move to England have not stopped.

And, the record breaking attacker’s international team-mate Di Maria has discussed a potential link up with former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.

“I don’t think Messi would have any problem working with Mourinho,” Di Maria told Fifa’s official website.

“But in principle, I don’t think Leo wants to leave Barcelona. It’s hard to walk away from a club that’s given you everything, where you effectively grew up.”

Now at Manchester United, Di Maria then added his thoughts on the comparisons between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, stressing that both are two different players.

“I always say the same thing: that they’re two completely different players,” he remarked.

“Leo features in every game, making short bursts and nonchalantly dribbling past one, two or three players with great ball control in tight spaces. Cristiano is more about power and long range shots. They’re different.

“If I were Fifa, I’d have two Ballon d’Or prizes; one for that pair to fight over and another for everyone else.”
