£37m German defender joining Man United in the summer

Mats Hummels will join Manchester United in the summer after a deal was agreed with Borussia Dortmund.

The German central defender has long been linked with a move away from Dortmund and those reports have now gathered pace as the Bundesliga side continue to struggle domestically, sitting rock bottom of the league.

Hummels, like winger Marco Reus, is one who is keen to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side and has now agreed in principle a move to Old Trafford for the summer.

The World Cup winner will fill a huge gap in central defence for United boss Louis van Gaal, who has struggled for consistency in that role after both Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand left last summer.

United are also interested in Barcelona full-back Dani Alves, who will see his current deal at the Camp Nou expire in June and tentative contract talks are said to have taken place between United and the player’s agent,  Dinorah Santana.
