Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu has discussed 2014 in general, saying that it has been a ‘difficult’ one for the Catalan club.

Bartomeu replaced Sandro Rosell as president in January after his predecessor was taken to court over payments made to Neymar’s father during the transfer of the Brazilian from Santos in 2013.

Further problems have since come to light with Lionel Messi involved in tax fraud allegations, whilst on the field – Barca, have also struggled, failing to win a single trophy last season under the guidance of Argentine coach Tata Martino.

Tito Vilanova, also passed away, in what has been a miserable year for the Catalans.

But Bartomeu has attemptedĀ to stay confident ahead of 2015 and believes good times can come to the club again.

“The year of 2014 has been a very difficult one. For 2015, we hope it will be a magnificent year and Christmas time brings hope of a new start.

“For 2015 we have great enthusiasm and confidence in the club and Luis Enrique.”
