Chelsea are not looking to match Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ this season, insists boss Jose Mourinho.
The Blues have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the Premier League season and have already played a number of bigger sides in Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton.
Many comparisons to Arsenal’s famous Invincible side have been made, but Portuguese coach Mourinho insists that his side are not playing for that honour.
“One thing is that I don’t think it’s possible [to remain undefeated],” he told reporters. “The other thing is we are not playing for that.
“If you play for that, if that is one objective, maybe you draw so many matches and you don’t take risks to try and win matches. You are happy just to be undefeated.
“If you get 10 draws, you get 10 points. If you win five and lose five, you make 15 points. I’d prefer 15 points and lose some matches than 10 points and be undefeated.
“We don’t focus on that – we don’t. If we have a 0-0 with 20 minutes to go [against Spurs], we are not going to play for the 0-0 to be undefeated after 21 matches. No way.
“We are going to play matches to win. Sometimes, we will lose.”
