Man United ‘crazy’ to spend £47m on Hummels

Manchester United would be ‘crazy’ to spend £47m on Borussia Dortmund Mats Hummels, according to a source close to the club.

Bundesliga club Dortmund are likely to demand in the region of £47m for Hummels next summer as they receive interest from a number of big spending European clubs.

The German international has been heavily expected to move to the Premier League in recent times with Arsenal and Man United linked and it now seems that the latter are willing to pay what it takes to complete the deal.

It is now understood also by various reports that the centre-back has agreed personal terms with Man United and will now wait to hear how negotiations over his transfer fee develop in the coming weeks.

However, a source close to the club is less than convinced by the spending on Hummels.

“Signing Mats Hummels is brilliant, but nearly £50m on a defender it NOT,” he said.

“The club has broke into this method of spending lots of money on players to try and get back to the Ferguson successes. It is not going to work like that. This club is built on youth, hard work and raw talent, not multi-million pound players.”
