Mexico striker Javier Hernandez has revealed the reasons why he left Manchester United this summer and joined Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old signed for United in 2010 and gained regular playing time under Sir Alex Ferguson, however, his time under boss David Moyes saw him feature less and less, later being deemed surplus to requirements by new boss Louis van Gaal.

The Mexico international has discussed his own personal reasons about leaving United and his desire to force a permanent move to Madrid next summer.

“They thought I couldn’t help any more at United so we decided by mutual agreement that I would leave,” the Mexican told ESPN.

“It was the toughest challenge [I was offered] and the one that gave me the least chances [of first-team football], but these are the challenges I like and the ones I’ve worked for all my life,” he insisted.

“I dreamed of being here. I have the talent and I’ll work hard to show I belong at such a great institution. I hope some positive things happen, both to the club and myself.”
