Prince Albert II of Monaco has admitted that he was disappointed when Radamel Falcao left to join Manchester United this summer.
The Colombian striker played for Monaco for just one season and one which was blighted by injury, before he eventually moved on a loan deal to United in the summer, which will also see him move to Old Trafford on a permanent deal next June.
Albert II confessed that he expected the former Atletico Madrid man to remain at the club for at least one more year, before discussing the Ligue 1 side’s poor form.
“I was disappointed by the departure of Falcao,” he told Canal Plus. “We expected him to stay a little more. But now the young team is progressing well.
“I understand the frustration of fans who feel abandoned. But even with fewer big names, we can hope to do well.
“What has been disappointing is the lack of uniformity. I think the team has struggled, or the coach has had the difficulty to finding the right way to motivate the group.
“But I think we’re on a roll to make a great season.
“Jardim coming in as coach surprised everyone. In the beginning it was quite difficult, but I think now we can see it evolving. This is positive.”
