Marcus Rashford has responded publicly to a viral podcast clip in which Jamie Carragher expressed frustration at constant discussion of the Manchester United forward.

The moment came during the Stick to Football podcast, when former United defender Gary Neville attempted to raise the topic of Rashford with his co-hosts.

Carragher was having none of it, voicing his exasperation in typically blunt fashion before Neville could get the conversation going.

“Can we do a podcast without mentioning Rashford?” Carragher said, drawing laughs from those around him on the show.

“Stop it. Oh my God. It’s like the Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and Rashford… like a little part of the podcast. The Trent part or the Rashford part.”

Rashford saw the clip circulating on social media and took the opportunity to respond directly, sharing his own feelings on the relentless coverage surrounding him.

Posting on X, the 28-year-old wrote: “Thanks, Jamie. It would be great to be able to get my head down and play football without my name being mentioned every day.”

The comment reflects the scrutiny Rashford has faced over the past year or so, a period that has seen his United future repeatedly called into question by pundits, fans, and journalists alike.

He spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he enjoyed a productive spell that ended with a La Liga title triumph, adding a major honour to his record away from Old Trafford.

Despite that success in Spain, Rashford now appears set to remain at Manchester United rather than pursue a permanent move elsewhere this summer.

His last competitive appearance for the club came in December 2024, under current manager Ruben Amorim, meaning he has been away from United action for several months.

With the new Premier League season now upon us, Rashford could be in line to feature in United’s opening fixture against Hull on Saturday, giving him the chance to stake his claim under Amorim.

Defender Harry Maguire has already made clear he wants to see Rashford stay at the club, speaking after United’s 4-2 friendly defeat against AC Milan at the weekend.

Maguire described the forward as a “big asset” and a “huge threat,” making no secret of his belief that Rashford still has an important role to play at Old Trafford.

Whether Rashford gets the fresh start he appears to be seeking remains to be seen, but the opening weeks of the season will go a long way towards answering that question.
