Barry Hearn has made a personal investment in Brentwood Town FC, taking a minority stake as part of a major new deal with his Matchroom business.
Matchroom, which is based in Brentwood, has renewed its sponsorship agreement with the club for a further five years in what has been described as a “significant investment.”
The deal is designed to accelerate Brentwood Town’s push towards the National League, which represents the fifth tier of English football.
The club currently compete in the seventh tier of the football pyramid, having earned promotion in 2025, and are now targeting a rapid rise through the divisions.
Brentwood chairman Jez Dickinson has spoken enthusiastically about what the renewed partnership means for the club beyond the financial boost it provides.
Dickinson said: “Whilst obviously the financial support from the partnership helps the club, it is genuinely having Barry and Matchroom behind us and part of our set up that is the real silver bullet.”
The club also has firm plans in place to develop its stadium infrastructure over the coming year, with new stands, changing rooms, and a clubhouse all in the pipeline.
Those facility upgrades are seen as critical to the club’s long-term ambitions, helping Brentwood Town build towards the standards required at higher levels of the game.
Hearn himself has been clear about his motivations, citing a deep belief in the power of sport to transform communities and lives at every level.
Hearn said: “Sport has the power to change lives. We have lived and breathed that for decades here at Matchroom, working with some of the very best to ever do it.”
He added that as a business rooted in Brentwood, Matchroom is “very passionate about supporting local initiatives that will leave a long lasting impact on the community.”
Hearn also pointed to a broader shared ambition, describing “a shared vision to work closely with Brentwood Town FC to ultimately unlock sporting excellence, from grassroots through to the first teams.”
The personal minority stake Hearn has taken in the club signals that this is far more than a straightforward corporate sponsorship arrangement for the sports promoter.
With Matchroom’s financial muscle and Hearn’s considerable experience in elite sport now behind them, Brentwood Town look well-placed to challenge for promotion in the coming seasons.
