Heart of Midlothian have confirmed their 22-man squad for the Champions League second-round qualifier against Austrian side Sturm Graz.

Manager Wouter Vrancken has had to make some difficult calls, with as many as 10 first-team players missing out on the selection.

The club were unable to name a full 25-man List A squad due to a shortage of club-trained players, limiting Vrancken’s available options considerably.

Four summer additions have also been left out of the squad, highlighting the early-season challenges of integrating new arrivals into European competition.

New signing Beau Reus is among those who have not made the cut, while goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow has been included in the travelling party.

The goalkeeping positions are covered by Schwolow, Ryan Fulton, and Zander Clark, giving Vrancken solid options between the sticks.

In defence, Hearts have named Christian Borchgrevink, Stephen Kingsley, Jamie McCart, Stuart Findlay, Jordi Altena, Malachi Fagan-Walcott, and Harry Milne.

The midfield contingent includes Oisin McEntee, Tom Renaud, Blair Spittal, Sabri Guendouz, and Tomas Magnusson as Vrancken looks to control proceedings in Austria.

Up front, Hearts will look to Calvin Miller, Claudio Braga, Landry Kabore, James Wilson, Sabah Kerjota, Rogers Mato, and Alexandros Kyziridis to provide the attacking threat.

The squad travels to Austria on Monday and will train at the Merkur Arena that evening ahead of the first-leg tie on Tuesday.

The return leg is scheduled a week later at Tynecastle Park, where Hearts will be hoping for strong home support to see them through.

Should Hearts progress past Sturm Graz, the club will need to submit a fresh squad for the third-round tie by July 30, keeping the pressure firmly on the recruitment team.

This is a significant occasion for the Edinburgh club, who are keen to make an impression on the European stage under Vrancken’s leadership this season.
