Jens Hjerto-Dahl has publicly stated his preference for a move to Rangers, declaring that a switch to Ibrox is “more appealing than going to Turkey.”
The 20-year-old Norwegian midfielder is one of the most sought-after young talents in Scandinavian football following a stunning breakthrough period with Tromso.
When quizzed by iTromso about the prospect of joining Rangers over Turkish side Besiktas, Hjerto-Dahl made his feelings plain, stating: “It’s more appealing than going to Turkey.”
The youngster was previously linked with Besiktas during the January 2026 transfer window, but that deal collapsed before it could be completed.
Reports from Italy then emerged suggesting Hjerto-Dahl was “one step away” from joining Rangers, with Serie A club Lazio also credited with interest in the player.
Despite signing a new contract with Tromso in February that runs until December 2029, reports in Norway suggest Rangers have had a £5.3 million bid rejected by the Norwegian club.
Tromso have set an £8.5 million price tag on their prized asset, making any potential transfer a significant financial commitment for the Ibrox club.
Besiktas have reportedly revived their interest by submitting a fresh offer, creating a genuinely competitive situation for the attacking midfielder’s signature.
In just 12 Eliteserien appearances this season, Hjerto-Dahl has already scored five goals and provided two assists, underlining his considerable creative and goalscoring threat.
According to FotMob, no central midfielder in Norway’s top flight has taken more shots than Hjerto-Dahl’s tally of 30 during the current campaign.
He is also averaging 0.43 goals per 90 minutes, has completed 16 dribbles, and has made 99 defensive contributions, highlighting his influence at both ends of the pitch.
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have continued to invest heavily in the Rangers squad under Derek McInnes, though they will be mindful of their overall budget.
