Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is poised to make his senior England debut during the upcoming World Cup warm-up friendlies in the United States.

Scott has travelled to Florida as one of five supplementary members added to England’s preparation camp squad ahead of the tournament.

The other additional players to make the trip are Rio Ngumoha, Josh King, Jason Steele and Ethan Nwaneri, who join the main group in West Palm Beach.

England are currently awaiting the arrivals of Arsenal quartet Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke following their involvement in European finals.

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson is also due to join the camp and is expected to arrive within the next 24 hours.

The remaining four players from that group are expected to report for duty over the weekend once their club commitments are fulfilled.

All five supplementary selections are eligible to feature in the friendlies against New Zealand and Costa Rica, despite not being part of Thomas Tuchel’s full World Cup squad.

The quintet will remain in Florida for the full duration of the camp rather than departing when the other five players arrive.

Scott was included in Tuchel’s provisional 55-man tournament squad, meaning he is the only one of the five supplementary players currently in contention to break into the full World Cup party if injuries occur.

The 22-year-old therefore has a strong opportunity to earn his first international cap in one of the upcoming friendlies before heading off for his summer break.

Scott received his first senior England call-up for November fixtures against Serbia and Albania but did not make an appearance in either match.

Tuchel subsequently left Scott out of the squad for March games against Japan and Uruguay, before omitting him from his final 26-man World Cup selection.

Speaking about his decision to bring five additional players to the United States camp, Tuchel said: “I’m really happy these guys are with us, especially Alex, who was with us in the list of 55 and had a kind of disappointing phone call as well, that he didn’t make the first cut.”

Tuchel added: “But the reaction of him was outstanding, the commitment, the wish to be in pre-camp and to just be a step closer to the team was not even a question for him.”

The England head coach concluded: “He showed me his character and his spirit so I’m delighted that he’s with us because it was a close call.”
