Chelsea have turned down several approaches from rival clubs for young defender Josh Acheampong, making clear he is not available for transfer.
The 20-year-old has come through the academy system at Stamford Bridge and has been granted what is described as “untouchable” status regarding his future at the club.
That designation places Acheampong alongside a group of players Chelsea consider central to their long-term plans and not for sale under any circumstances.
He joins the likes of forwards Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer, as well as midfielder Moises Caicedo, in that protected category at the club.
The decision is notable given that Acheampong made only 17 Premier League appearances last season, with nine of those coming from the substitutes’ bench.
The England Under-21 international still has significant time remaining on his current deal, with his Chelsea contract running until 2029.
Whether Acheampong himself has any desire to leave the club at this stage remains unclear, with no firm indication from his camp either way.
Arsenal, Newcastle and Crystal Palace are all known to be keeping a close eye on developments surrounding the defender’s situation at Stamford Bridge.
Bournemouth have also maintained their interest in the young defender, having first registered their desire to sign him during the summer transfer window last year.
The volume of interest from Premier League clubs highlights just how highly regarded Acheampong is despite his relatively limited top-flight experience to date.
Chelsea’s firm stance signals that the club are determined to build future success around homegrown talent already embedded within their squad structure.
