Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Inter Milan are preparing to activate their buy-back clause for Club Brugge midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic this summer.

The highly rated defensive midfielder has recently been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United after attracting attention for his performances in Belgium.

However, Inter already hold contractual control over the player and appear ready to bring him back to the San Siro before other clubs can negotiate.

Romano confirmed the Italian club has begun planning ahead of the upcoming transfer window and sees the move as a priority decision.

He wrote: “Inter have already started planning for Aleksandar Stankovic buy back clause ahead of June. €23m buy back available this summer, €25m for June 2027 but club already making plans for upcoming June.”

The clause gives Inter the option to re-sign him for €23 million in the coming window, rising slightly if triggered in a later year.

    Premier League Interest Faces Setback

The update represents a significant obstacle for Premier League clubs hoping to sign the Serbian midfielder during the next market cycle.

Arsenal and Manchester United had monitored his development closely and were believed to be evaluating a potential summer approach.

The 20-year-old has earned comparisons to a young Declan Rice due to his defensive positioning, physical presence, and maturity in midfield build-up phases.

Such traits would make him a logical long-term investment for clubs looking to strengthen their central structure and develop emerging talent.

Yet Inter’s contractual leverage means any negotiations would likely require the Italian side’s approval rather than direct talks with Club Brugge.

That effectively leaves English suitors relying on Inter changing strategy rather than competing in a conventional transfer race.

    Long-Term Future Still Open

Stankovic previously struggled for opportunities at Inter earlier in his career before moving abroad to gain consistent minutes and experience.

His development in Belgium appears to have convinced the Serie A side that he now fits into their long-term squad planning.

Even if Inter delay their decision, they maintain a €25 million option valid the following year which continues their control over his destination.

The situation suggests his immediate future may depend more on Inter’s internal planning than market demand from other clubs.

Interest from top teams is still expected to grow as he gains experience and improves technically and tactically over the next seasons.

For now, however, the buy-back clause positions Inter as clear favourites to determine the next chapter of his career.
