Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly exploring the possibility of a permanent transfer for striker Alejo Veliz.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Rosario Central, the Argentine club where he began his career before joining Spurs in 2023.

Negotiations are ongoing, though a transfer fee has yet to be finalised, according to reports.

Veliz’s loan deal is scheduled to run until June 2026, meaning any permanent move would require an early termination.

    Early Impact at Rosario

Since rejoining Rosario in July, Veliz has scored five goals in 16 appearances, demonstrating his growing influence on the pitch.

He made eight appearances for Tottenham during the 2023-24 season before injury curtailed his campaign.

Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has previously expressed high expectations for Veliz, comparing his style to former Liverpool and Barcelona striker Luis Suarez.

Messi named Veliz as one of Argentina’s most promising young talents in September 2023, alongside Roman Vega and Maximo Perrone.

“Watching him play reminds me of what Suarez used to play like. I am very excited for the future of this country, and hope I can be an influence to these people, and talk to him,” Messi said.

Teaming Up with Angel Di Maria

Veliz now plays alongside fellow Argentine star Angel Di Maria at Rosario, following Di Maria’s return to his childhood club after Benfica’s 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign.

The two exchanged messages encouraging Veliz to join Central, which he described as a “driving force” behind his decision.

“Ever since it went viral that I was returning to Central, Angel and I exchanged messages,” Veliz said during his unveiling.

“And when he said, ‘Come on, you’re missing now,’ it’s truly a driving force that pushes you forward, and I was crazy and wanted to come right away. What we wanted happened, and I’m very happy to be here.”

Veliz added that being close to family, including his grandparents, provides a sense of fulfilment.

“I don’t feel like I am here anywhere else. I came back to be able to fulfil myself,” he said.

The move underscores Tottenham’s ongoing reshuffle and highlights Veliz’s desire to flourish in familiar surroundings.
