Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke is focussing solely on keeping his club in the Premier League at present, according to his agent Eris Kismet.
The Belgium international has been well and truly back in the goals since Tim Sherwood’s arrival. Benteke has netted nine times in all competitions during Sherwood’s reign, including a hat-trick against Queens Park Rangers and a vital goal in Villa’s 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win over Liverpool.
Benteke’s agent Kismet has denied claims of any interest; “At the moment there is no interest,” he said. “Every player and staff member is concentrated on avoiding relegation, anything else is just a distraction.
“I know everyone wants the same thing because I watch the games and I think Aston Villa are playing the best football in England right now.”
Despite an excellent display against Manchester City on Saturday, Villa went down 3-2 and are still embroiled in a fascinating relegation battle. The Villans may need to keep relying on the 24-year-old’s goals – not only to keep them up – but potentially fire them to FA Cup glory.
