Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has insisted that Wayne Rooney has no problem playing at Anfield, despite only scoring once in 10 years against Liverpool.

The England striker has scored just one goal in 10 seasons against Liverpool at Anfield, prompting claims that he has a ‘mental block’ when playing against the Merseyside club.

However, Dutch boss Van Gaal believes that the former Everton goalscorer has no problems heading into Sunday’s game and that a goal would be perfect to put to bed any doubts.

“I don’t think that Wayne has a (mental) block, he’s a very experienced player,” Van Gaal told Sky Sports News.

“He has played on all the grounds in the world, so I don’t think that he shall be influenced by the fans at the stadium, or something like that.

“It’s strange but it can be like this, and I hope I can change it with Wayne.”
