Arsenal are planning a summer swoop for Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani, according to various reports.

Cavani, who is widely tipped to replace Radamel Falcao at Manchester United next season has emerged as a transfer target for Arsene Wenger, with the French boss a keen admirer of his performances for PSG and the Uruguayan national side.

The 28-year-old has struggled to adapt to life with the Parisien side, having battled with the clubs owners and boss Laurent Blanc over his role at the club and preferred position.

PSG signed Cavani from Napoli in 2013 and they are confident that they can recoup the money they dished out back then, meaning Arsenal’s planned bid of £35m could be rejected.

Reports in Spanish press claim that Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is ready to sell Mario Mandzukic in order to fund a move for Cavani this summer and has enlisted the help of Diego Godin, an international team-mate of Cavani to tempt the striker in a move to the Vicente Calderon.
