Rio Ferdinand believes that Angel di Maria needs time to fit in at Manchester United following poor performances this season.
The Argentine forward helped guide Real Madrid to a Champions League title last season and continued his form through to the World Cup with his country.
However, since his £59.7m move to Old Trafford last summer; the winger has failed to replicate such form and has been heavily criticised by media and fans.
During an interview with Goal.com, former United defender Ferdinand said: “It always takes time for a player to adapt to his new surroundings, especially when you go to a foreign league.
“Not every player can be like [Cristiano] Ronaldo and just turn up and instantly become a superstar. Maybe it will take Di Maria a bit longer. It might take him a year, you never know.”
