Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has strongly denied claims that he and Ryan Giggs fell out.

Reports have surfaced since the 1-0 midweek win over Newcastle United, claiming that the pair did not see eye to eye over a number of issues at Old Trafford.

Giggs’s muted celebrations were all to clear to see following Ashley Young’s goal at St James Park, prompting more speculation, but the Dutch boss has played down such reports.

“We have a very bad relationship,” he joked when asked about suggestions of a coming together. “I’m very irritated because of this question because everyone can see we have a very good relationship and we work very hard together.

“I think it’s a way of suggesting things. So then I’m very irritated and then I take my measures against the media. I’m not pleased. I think 90% [of suggestions] are not happening.”
