Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has reflected on his side’s League Cup final win, praising his ‘fantastic’ team-mates for their performance.

The Blues proved too strong for Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham side as goals from John Terry and Diego Costa gave them a first title of the season.

And, Cahill, who played in a more forward role, replacing the suspended Nemanja Matic; has hailed the performance.

“Fantastic. This sets up a good finish to the season. Against our local rivals, clean sheet, we’ve won the cup, it’s an amazing feeling,” he told BBC Sport. “They made it tough, they had a couple of chances in the first half but the skipper stood up for us with the goal.

“Diego was superb, and every single player on the pitch gave 100%. This is what you get when you work hard, and it’s special for me too because I’ve never won the League Cup before.

“We knew we had a job to do. Kurt Zouma for such a young lad to come in to the team, he’s been fantastic, and he played an unfamiliar position today. He’s a great boy, a fantastic talent.”
