Atletico Madrid join Spurs in race to sign Turkish star

Atletico Madrid have emerged as front-runners to make a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur target Gokhan Tore.

The Turkish midfielder has been in superb form this season under the guidance of Slaven Bilic at Turkish side Besiktas and has gained plaudits from a number of top European sides.

Tore, who spent time in England previously with Chelsea, working his way through the youth stages at Stamford Bridge between the years of 2009 and 2011; has played in Germany for Hamburg and Russia with Rubin Kazan in his short career.

It is understood that Besiktas have placed a £12m asking price on the 23-year-old, but that is unlikely to deter Spanish champions Atletico, who are keen to bolster their options for next season.

Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak is reporting that officials from the Spanish club joined Spurs officials in scouting the youngster earlier this season.
