Mackay makes public apology for derogative texts

Malky-Mackay

Former Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay has apologised this afternoon for inappropriate text messages he had sent to his former Cardiff colleague – ex-head of recruitment Iain Moody – during his time in charge of the Welsh side last season.

The Scot made his public apology this afternoon on Sky Sports News for text messages that had been deemed racist, sexist and homophobic by the FA during an investigation which had been launched this week.

10,000 messages had been highlighted as unacceptable and Mackay denied sending all by three during his time as Cardiff coach last season.

“The texts are things I have to explain, out of 10,000 messages I sent three,” he explained.

“Looking at them, they are completely unacceptable and inappropriate, and any offence caused I sincerely apologise.”

Although he could not entirely excuse the text messages, Mackay hinted he would look to seek some sort of justification over the fact he was under pressure and stress during the time period in question.

“I did it in a period when I was under immense pressure and stress. Im a manager and it shouldn’t have happened, I made a mistake.”
