Arsenal & Chelsea to miss out on Real Madrid midfielder

Arsenal and Chelsea are behind Turkish side Trabzonspor in the race to sign Sami Khedira, whose contract with Real Madrid expires in June.

The German midfielder will leave the Santiago Bernabeu in June if he fails to find a club in January and Milliyet.com.tr claim that Trabzonspor are leading the race to complete a deal.

A number of Premier League clubs have so far shown interest in the World Cup winner but have been put off by his large wage demands and injury problems this season, which have restricted his appearances for the reigning European champions.

Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked with English and Spanish press and it is was understood that Madrid officials made one last attempt to lure both clubs into making a cut-price bid earlier this month.

Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund also received a similar offer, but Madrid failed to receive a concrete offer from the trio, leaving Trabzonspor with the advantage.
