Arsenal set to bid £26m for ex-Bayern Munich striker

Arsenal are set to table a £26 million bid for Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic, according to Metro.

The Croatian forward has been prolific during his time at Atletico Madrid, having accumulated eight goals in 16 appearances for the La Liga side.

Before Atletico Madrid, Mandzukic plied his trade at German giants Bayern Munich and there he made over 55 appearances, scoring 33 goals.

Mandzukic would certainly add an element of potency and firepower to the Gunners frontline, but whether the deal will materialise in January is uncertain.

It is unlikely that Atletico manager Diego Simeone will want to let one of the club’s main sources of goals leave the club, but if a sizeable offer was placed it could be too hard to turn down.

At the age of 28, Mandzukic has a few years of professional left in him and it could turn out to be an astute bit of business for the North London club.
