Newcastle United close to signing highly-rated midfielder

MK Dons hotshot midfielder Deli Alli looks close to joining Newcastle United, according to BBC Sport.

The figure being mooted is around £5 million including add ons as well as the Dons taking Alli back on loan for the rest of the season to ensure frequent game time.

The deal makes complete sense for the Magpies with the Milton Keynes born midfielder only being 18 and is being widely tipped as ‘the next Steven Gerrard’ he is sure to be a prospect for the future.

Newcastle have came under fire in recent years due to their over influx in foreign players and in particular Frenchmen.

Alli’s record this season stands at 12 goals in 25 games as well as three assists and for a player usually played in a holding role of the midfield, it is a record which a striker would be proud of.

Dele would not be the first lower league player to make a big money move to a premier league giant. Only a few years ago it was Mannchester Unitd whom delved into League Two to acquire Nick Powell who was at the time plying his trade for Crewe Alexandra.

Its fair to say at the moment Powell’s full potential is yet to be discovered, recent loan moves to Wigan and now Leicester have been somewhat unsuccessful but this is not to say the same would come from Alli.

Arsenal are just one name among a lot of high profile teams who have been linked with a move for the player but Dons manager Karl Robinson has said he wants a move for Dele where he knows he will get first team football and progress as a player.
