Brazilian midfielder keen to leave Liverpool

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva has revealed his intentions to leave Liverpool after falling out of favour at Anfield.

The 27-year-old was strongly linked with a move away from Merseyside this summer after falling behind the likes of Jordan Henderson and Joe Allen for a starting place in Brendan Rodgers’ side.

A whole of European clubs were credited with interest, whilst Napoli boss Rafael Benitez is still actively trying to sign the defensive midfielder.

And, speaking to the London Evening Standard, Lucas has revealed his desire to leave.

“I’m not speaking to anyone at the moment because I’m under contract, but I am looking around, given I am not playing,” he said.

“There was contact with Napoli last summer, but the parties didn’t reach a satisfactory agreement. It’s true that Benitez has always held me in high esteem.”
