UEFA rule out CSKA Moscow punishment

CSKA Moscow will not be punished for having 500 people in attendance at Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Manchester City, despite having to play the game behind-closed-doors.

The Russian side were handed a three-game stadium ban after travelling fans threw flares and started fights at Roma’s Stadio Olimpico in September.

However, around 500 people were in attendance for the Group E fixture against City, causing Vincent Kompany to complain after the 2-2 draw.

UEFA have since issued a statement about the incident and have said that those invited to the fixture were allowed, but it has agreed to pursue stricter rules in the future.

“Following yesterday’s match between CSKA Moskow and Manchester City, Uefa has reviewed the officials’ reports and found no breach of the conditions related to a match played behind closed doors that make part of the disciplinary decision,” a UEFA spokesperson told Goal.

“Only people who were allowed to enter the stadium (clubs delegations, media, security staff, Uefa and guests of sponsorship partners) attended the match with no record of inappropriate behaviour.

“However, Uefa is reviewing the ‘behind closed doors’ policy to see if alternative solutions could be implemented in the future.”
