Galatasaray fined £39.5k for Emirates Stadium damage

Galatasaray have been fined €50,000 (£39,5000) by UEFA following the crowd trouble against Arsenal earlier this month at Emirates stadium.

The Turkish club were beaten by Arsene Wenger’s side 4-1 on October 1st in a fixture which was halted due to several flares being thrown on to the pitch.

Seats in the away stand of the Emirates stadium were also damaged and broken by visiting fans.

The Turkish club had 30 days to settle the damage with Arsenal, whilst the Gunners were charged with poor organisation but will not be punished by football’s governing body.

Meanwhile, Swiss club Basel will be required to pay around the same figure for throwing objects in the 1-0 victory over Liverpool on the same night.

Basel will be required to pay €40,000 as a result of the “throwing of objects” that occurred in their 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League on October 1.
