Luke Shaw relishing Stamford Bridge clash

Manchester United left back Luke Shaw can’t wait for this weekend’s ‘massive’ clash with league leaders Chelsea, the team he supported growing up.

Shaw was a regular spectator at Stamford Bridge growing up in London and has played there with previous club Southampton.

But the 19-year-old knows his new side are in for a different type of encounter with the Blues as one of Europe’s most marquee fixtures takes place this Sunday.

He told Inside United magazine: “Playing against Chelsea is a big thing in my family and among my friends because I was born around that area of London.

“I used to watch them when I was younger, which is something I’m sure people know by now.”

United have found consistency hard to come by during the first three months of manager Louis Van Gaal’s reign but despite Chelsea being favourites on paper, Shaw knows this fixture is not like many others.

“Everyone knows that United-Chelsea games are massive, so it’s something I’m really looking forward to.”

“When I first played at Stamford Bridge with Southampton it was a bit of a surreal experience in a lot of ways because it was at a ground I’d visited as a kid.

“But playing against Chelsea with United at Old Trafford is a different proposition altogether.”
