Liverpool target keen on new Swansea deal

Wilfried Bony is ready to sign a new deal with Swansea City, despite numerous clubs showing interest in the striker.

Bony has been a huge success at the Liberty stadium and scored 25 goals in his first season with the Welsh club, leading to much interest from a number of top English and European clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool were extremely interested with the latter reportedly set on making a bid in the region of £12.5m for the Ivorian, but any such deals were rejected by Swansea officials.

Now, following a good start to the season – Bony is keen to sign a new contract at the club.

“If I wanted to go, I would have done,” Bony told Jeune Afrique. “But there has never been anything other than speculation about the departure in Monaco, Liverpool or Tottenham.

“I’m fine in Swansea. It is even possible that I extend my contract.

“Admittedly, I have been less effective than last season, but I’m not worried. I play in a team that is ranked high, and there is less pressure on the attackers.

“People trust me, and for a striker, you know how it works. You might just need one or two goals to get going again.”
